CAPERCAILLIE AND BLACK COCK HUNT NEAR MOSCOW

This unique and traditional Russian hunt is conducted in forests in Spring. In the time when birch trees start budding Capercaillies begin their mating period. The hunt starts in the evening. Hunter accompanied by EXPERIENCED GUIDE drive into forest by jeep, then walk 2-3 km to bird's pairing spot. In twilight Capercaillies fly there and take places on trees. At one place 3 - 10 birds meet together. At morning dawn Capercaillie males begin their song trying to attract females. At this very moment hunter begins to get closer to a singing bird. It may take him from 15 to 40 min. As hunter gets as close as a shooting distance (normally 20-40 m), he aims and shoots. Shotgun is good for the hunt as well as small caliber rifle. When you finish your Capercaillie hunt YOU MAY CONTINUE TO HUNT FOR BLACK COCK, woodcock and other birds. You will hunt Black Cock from huts in the field. Far before the dawn hunter with guide take position in the hut. With early sun Black Cocks start to fly on the field, where they begin their tournaments. When Black Cock comes to hunter at shooting distance a shot follows. Black Cocks may be scared by the shot and not fly away if the hunter doesn't snow up. Rifles with small caliber are most useful here. Air temperature in the night about - 5°C, during the daytime + 15°C. Warm and waterproof clothes are necessary. When you finish your hunt you can enjoy Moscow city tours with selected places of visit (THE KREMLIN, RED SQUARE, DIAMOND FUND, THE BOLSHOY THEATER, etc.)
